WELCOME TO AN UNFETTERED SOUL!
I’m so glad that you’re here. If you just let yourself be, what would you do and what would you be like? If you listened to your inner voice, what kind of person would you be? What changes can you make to your life to help you create a more enjoyable and meaningful life? What would the world be like if we all pursued these endeavors? That’s what this blog is about. Giving myself the space to explore whatever interests or inspires me, integrating more beauty and creativity into my life and re-finding my inner voice. And I hope I can help you do the same.
When I was younger, I had a very active inner voice and I liked what I heard in that voice. I felt passionately about my interests, I thought deeply about the meaning of life, I felt awe for the world around me and I cared intensely about humanity. I knew who I was and I was proud to be that person. Despite dealing with severe depression and painful life experiences, I was able to find joy and beauty in the little things in life and that was enough to keep me going.
As I have gotten older, my life, like many others, has become more about my 9-5 job, paying the bills, getting by. Additionally, although society has always been severely flawed, there used to be a feeling that humanity was on a trajectory towards bettering itself. However, the past decade or so has brought to the surface overwhelming hate and division, and a general questioning of where humanity is headed. This painful realization, together with the thousand heartaches of everyday life and personal relationships, has made it difficult for me to keep my head above water, in terms of happiness and living a meaningful life.
As we age and time progresses, the sheer volume of negative things adds up and you are crushed under the weight of it. As we endure more and more pain, we shut down a little more, love a little less. After years of hard work, we are just so exhausted, physically, emotionally and mentally. We shift into autopilot for years, decades. In that state, it can become harder to hear your inner voice.
So, that brings me to my point…what does it mean to have an “unfettered” soul? It doesn’t mean that bad things don’t exist in our lives, it means that we do what we can to unbury ourselves from that emotional burden. It is part action, part perception shift. What are the actions that we can take to alleviate negative situations in our lives, or minimize their effect on us, or adapt our perception of them? How can we clear the baggage and dirt from our souls so that we can live an unfettered life no matter what our circumstances are?
How can we achieve that? That will look different for each person. For me, part of that is slowing down my life and giving myself time. And the other part of it is taking my interests more seriously. Valuing my creativity, giving myself the time to explore it and also to spend more time appreciating the little things in my current life. Being more present.
